What is it about schools and skirts? Why all the fuss about skirt length?
To make the pragmatic point first; surely, surely there are more important things to worry about.
And on other points, I would just ask; what is the problem? are you worried about the boys’ gaze… um, haven’t we collectively discussed this already? whose problem is that gaze? do you think that the short skirt look is a deliberate attempt by girls to attract gaze? is it possible that what you’re seeing is students pushing back against a silly rule? and if you didn’t push the rule so hard, you would have more time to teach?
Anna came home the other day. She’d had a terrible day; her dyslexia meant she was unable to keep up with the reading in history, no one helped her, and she didn’t finish the work. In another class, the boy sitting next to her mocked her handwriting. She felt she had no one to speak to about this. In maths she knew the answer but had to write the word down, not the digits. No one helped her.
Yet the Headteacher had time to ask her to pull her skirt down.
So my last question is; what is it you really care about – education or skirt length?
