Anna and I were discussing the book, House of Magic; Raising the Kanneh-Masons by Dr. Kadiatu Kanneh-Mason. She raised seven children, all wonderful, talented musicians. One of my girls is doing a presentation on her son, Sheku, the first Black musician to win the BBC’s young Musician of the Year title in 2016 for Black History month.
“She is extraordinary,” I say about Dr Kadiatu. “I mean, seven children, all those meals not to mention the homework, washing, cleaning, practise, taxi-ing around … just imagine, keeping on top of it all with seven children!”
“Yeah, that is impressive,” Anna agrees. “I mean, no offence mum, but you’re struggling with three.”
