Anna lost her first tooth this morning. She ran into the kitchen to tell me.
I make a surprised face – eyes wide, mouth open – and was about to say, “no, no you haven’t, you’ve not grown big enough yet!” A lament on how fast they are travelling through childhood – which would have made it all about me.
“I’m so proud of you,” said Sam who had come into the kitchen behind her, following the excitement. And she gave Anna a big squeeze, adding “the tooth fairy will come tonight!”
“Oh yes, yes, me too, I’m so proud of you,” I say heading towards her for a hug, “and the tooth fairy, yes!” But it’s clear I was not quick enough.
Everything is moving faster than I want or can.
